Theresa Gourlay

I studied Drawing and Painting at DJCA, Dundee 1977 -1982 and taught Art and Design in schools from 1987 until 2018.

Since retiring from teaching in 2018 I have returned to making artwork full time. I did in my first Open Studios, May 2019, have taken part in a group exhibition “Getting Lost” at the Off the Rails Arthouse, Ladybank, August 2019. I had work in the Meffan Christmas exhibition in Forfar 2019 and in the “Self” exhibition in Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh 3rd – 9th March 2020. I currently have a portrait in the Scottish Portrait Award Exhibition.

I make portraits of people close to me and from memory and imagination. I paint landscapes from sketches and photographs mostly of places close to my home in Fife, sometimes from places I have visited on holiday. I love drawing, it is completely consumes your attention taking your mind away from everything else. I teach drawing to couple of adult classes which is a real joy. I think everyone should draw.
