Possibilities of Sketches

On the 12th and 13th August I’m offering a two-day workshop on converting on-the-spot sketches into finished work. The days will start at 10am and finish at 4pm.

After a brief chat about useful materials and marks you’ll get out and start sketching probably for about ten to fifteen minutes – this is very flexible and weather dependent! Please note we will go out if there’s rain so bring waterproofs! These trips may be for very short bursts!

Once inside (all dried off!) you will have a group discussion about possible ways of developing the images, thinking about things like composition and materials.

You will repeat this pattern over the two days, going out as a group and individually, back inside to produce images in a variety of materials, mixing materials – exploring and finding methods that suit you and what you want to achieve. You will end up with a bank of reference material, lots of experimental development work and hopefully some finished work too. And all this in August in beautiful Fife!

Sketches and finished pieces

A bit earlier…

In March this year (2023!) I was back at The Stables in Falkland with a new exhibition; Fife With Love. This time I was able to have an opening - it was lovely to meet up with friends, show them what I have been doing and chat for a bit.

Open Studios came at the end of April - a lot more chatting! Visitors were very kind about my work which was lovely! Some people bought pictures or cards, thank you!  Many stories were told and a few faces from the past brought some happy memories.

Meantime I am still teaching drawing and lino printing at Forgan Art Centre in Newport. My students are amazing - they produce beautiful work, usually do what they are told and put up with my endless stories and terrible jokes!

Exhibition, Falkland / Glasgow Art Club

I have an exhibition at the Stables Gallery in Falkland Estate with Lucy and Mary Golden until the 31st August. We have called it “Three ways” - we are showing off our different perspectives on landscape and the natural world. Falkland is a lovely place to visit at any time, a walk around the estate is always a joy - add to that a cup of coffee and some beautiful artwork at the Stables and you have the perfect day out! ;)

Also my portrait “Teresa” is in the Scottish Portrait Award exhibition at the Glasgow Art Club, Bath Street until 10th September. The Glasgow exhibition had been cancelled earlier in the year due to the pandemic so it is great that the Art Club were able to fit us in now!

February - Wee Greek Kitchen

As we took Andrew’s exhibition down we put mine up. Spiros completely in charge - everything arranged perfectly! The food is lovely too!

September

Face of Experience Competition

I spent a day in the V&A in Dundee with a few other painters and some lovely folks from the Pensioners Forum who modelled for us to paint. The event was organised by Dundee Voluntary Action, the Pensioners Forum and Duncan of Jordanstone and hosted by the V&A to celebrate Dundee’s Year of the Older Person. A fantastic day in a beautiful setting. Thank you to Ian Crighton for the photos!

And…

My brother had an exhibition

At the Stables in Falkland. It was meant to be early 2022 but a space became available. It looked brilliant! He has another Exhibition in The Wee Greek Kitchen, starting on 16th November.
